With their third and final pick of this 2021 NFL Draft scenario, the New York Jets upgrade the offensive line.

They learned the hard way with Sam Darnold that a quarterback’s growth is largely dependant on the play of the offensive line, and even with Mekhi Becton, it’s just not good enough yet.

Alex Leatherwood is almost the ideal type of player to add to the mix because he can play a variety of positions well — including tackle — and he would give the Jets a piece they could sort of plug and play at any spot they needed help.

With Trey Lance and Rashod Bateman coming in early on in this mock draft scenario, the Jets complete a trifecta of offensive selections with the defense certainly the focus of the second day if they want to do that.

Is it necessary for them to load up like this on offensive players? At this point, it looks like there’s really no question about it. The Jets must build a foundation offensively and if their top pick is a quarterback, they’d be wise to immediately build around him.
