Atlanta Falcons 2021 NFL Draft Need #5 – Quarterback

Currently, the Atlanta Falcons have just two quarterbacks on their roster with Matt Ryan and Matt Schaub. Schaub is set to become a free agent and will most likely retire since he would be 40-years-old at the start of next season. As for Ryan, he surprisingly isn’t too far behind and will be 36-years-old when the 2021 season begins.

Depending on where the Falcons end up picking, they could either invest a top pick in a starter now and figure out something with Ryan’s contract, or they can take a mid to late-round quarterback to be the backup and learn behind Ryan.

As it currently stands, the Falcons are one of just three teams that are winless. If that draft position sticks and they end up in the top three, then taking Trevor Lawrence, Justin Fields or Trey Lance becomes an intriguing option. Otherwise, waiting for a player like Sam Ehlinger in the middle-rounds might be the better option.

Eventually, Atlanta will have to start looking to the future at the quarterback position. With both quarterbacks older than 35, they need to invest in some youth at the position sooner rather than later and the 2021 NFL Draft could provide them the perfect draft position to do so.
