The Dallas Cowboys need a major overhaul on the defensive side of the football, and that’s the focus in this mock draft.

What a wild start to the year it’s been for the Dallas Cowboys. After a quarter of the season, they sit at 1-3, which, surprisingly, is just a half-game out of first place in the NFC East. While that is good news, how they’ve gotten to 1-3 should scare the fan base.

This won’t be an indictment on the play of quarterback Dak Prescott, who has had an incredible start to the season. After a so-so start against the Rams, Prescott has thrown for 450+ yards in each of his last three games. Two of those were in comeback efforts, which may not sway the haters toward his side, but he’s been efficient and effective in all areas of the field.

Rookie CeeDee Lamb has had a great start, especially in an offense loaded with playmakers. He’s currently on pace for an 82/1236/8 season, which are excellent rookie numbers.

The issue falls on the defense and coordinator Mike Nolan. Dallas has allowed 146 points through four games, which leads to an average of 36.5 per game. The scheme transition to a 3-4 hasn’t helped out DeMarcus Lawrence and Everson Griffen, and Jaylon Smith hasn’t excelled either.

In fact, rookie Trevon Diggs might be having the best year of any defender right now. Their latest defeat at the hands of the Cleveland Browns saw them surrender over 300 yards on the ground. Something has to change.

The good news is that it’s always mock draft season around here, and with the 2021 NFL Draft talk in full swing this fall, it’s a perfect time to mock a defensive overhaul for the Dallas Cowboys. Let’s dive in!
