Dallas Cowboys: Early top positions of need for 2021 NFL Draft
By Kyle Edmond
Draft Need #5 – Tight End
This is more of a pie-in-the-sky type need. Dallas has much bigger needs, but should a top playmaker at the position fall to them, like Kyle Pitts, it could be something to consider.
Blake Jarwin was expected to have a breakout season this year by some, but an injury ended his season early. Instead, we’ve seen potential out of Dalton Schultz that should make fans excited about what could come from the position down the road.
With Prescott showing a lot of love when it comes to targeting tight ends, the Cowboys might be looking to upgrade the position through the draft. Jarwin has struggled to stay healthy and consistent early in his career and while Schultz has shown flashes in his opportunities, he doesn’t seem like the type of tight end that Dallas wants long term.
The Dallas offense already has a ton of big-play potential between Ezekiel Elliott and their three-headed monster at wide receiver. Adding a dominant tight end to that mix could be one of the worst nightmares in the league for opposing defenses.
Like I said, this isn’t a need that needs to be pursued during the 2021 NFL Draft. Instead, this is a luxury need that could make a difference if it happens. The Cowboys can easily get by with Jarwin or Schultz, but adding someone like Pitts is at the very least intriguing.
