Draft Need #3 – Defensive Line

It can be difficult to group the entire defensive line into one, but for the Dallas Cowboys, that’s the case. As a unit, it feels like they have been pieced together and are all shells of former players.

Adding players like Gerald McCoy, who had his season end before it began, Everson Griffen and Dontari Poe work in the short term, but the long-term move for Dallas has to be through the draft process.

They added Neville Gallimore this past year, snagging him at a great value in the third round, but that’s just one player. The Cowboys will need more players like him to fall if they want to completely turn around their defense.

On top of the older players, the Cowboys will also have to face free agency that is looming for other players on the line. Tyrone Crawford‘s contract is up at the end of the year, as is Griffen’s.

With both Crawford and Griffen being potential free agents on top of the more injury-prone veterans of McCoy and Poe, this Dallas line might need a lot of work before it can compete at the level needed.

So far, the Cowboys have allowed at least 113 rushing yards to each of their opponents, including 307 to a Cleveland Browns team that didn’t have Nick Chubb for the majority of the game. That should be a major red flag for the team, but even so, it isn’t their top need which is more than concerning.
