Draft Need #2 – Cornerback

Safety alone won’t fix the Dallas secondary. While they’ve added solid pieces, like Trevon Diggs, the Cowboys’ cornerbacks could take a hit this coming offseason.

Chidobe Awuzie, Jourdan Lewis, Daryl Worley, Brandon Carr, and C.J. Godwin are all set to become free agents at the end of the year, leaving just Diggs and Saivion Smith has the current cornerbacks that are under contract for next year.

Now, the Cowboys will most likely resign at least one of those players and there is always free agency to bring in more hands, but the reality is that this position could see a total shift from the group that occupied the spot just a year ago. Given the results so far this season, that could be a good thing.

I won’t go through all the stats again because what I said for safety applies here as well. The Cowboys secondary is flat out bad. There’s no other way to say it. Having all these pieces exit might not be a bad thing and would allow new blood at the position that might be able to change the narrative that has shrouded the group for years now.

If the Cowboys can use at least their first two picks on the secondary in the 2021 NFL Draft, they will be in a much better spot next year at this time.
