2021 NFL Draft: Which teams would pass on Trevor Lawrence?
Let’s start with the obvious.
The Cincinnati Bengals weren’t fooling themselves or anyone else this offseason by claiming to be a postseason contender.
Should Joe Burrow lead the Bengals to the playoffs in his rookie year (which is still possible) like Andrew Luck did for the Colts, this will obviously be a moot point. The Bengals competed hard against the Philadelphia Eagles but the Eagles are another team in disarray right now (and they aren’t on this list, because they would probably take Lawrence #1 overall).
As good as Burrow is (and he’s really good) the Bengals as a team could lose enough games to earn the number one overall pick. At that point, Cincinnati would have a fun decision to make between potentially trading down and out of the number one pick for a ton of draft capital or staying put and just taking Penei Sewell, Oregon’s star left tackle prospect.
Either way, the Bengals are invested heavily in Burrow and unlike Josh Rosen with the Arizona Cardinals, Burrow has shown enough even in just three games for everyone to know he’s not getting replaced by Trevor Lawrence.
