Vikings: 2021 NFL Draft the time to find Kirk Cousins replacement?
The Vikings could take Kirk Cousins’ replacement in the 2021 NFL Draft.
The Minnesota Vikings were probably not wanting to talk about the 2021 NFL Draft so early in the 2020 season.
Unfortunately, the team has started 0-3 and Kirk Cousins is a major reason for it.
Cousins is completing less than 60 percent of his passes with five touchdowns and six interceptions so far in 2020, and that has come even with Dalvin Cook and Alexander Matison each averaging over five yards per carry.
It’s really disappointing from Cousins, who has helped the Vikings win some games and has even put together some clutch performances for Minnesota, but for a guy who signed one of the largest fully guaranteed contracts in NFL history, he has not lived up to lofty expectations.
There are still 13 games left to play in the 2020 season and much of this season’s story is yet to be written, but how will the Vikings respond in the 2021 offseason if Cousins continues to play poorly and cost the team victories?
Cousins’ base salary of $21 million in 2021 is fully guaranteed, so he’s likely married to the Vikings for at least another season, but that doesn’t mean the team can’t plan to cut ties as soon as 2022.
With one eye on 2021 at least for the time being, how might the Vikings’ 2021 NFL Draft go down if they actually choose to move on from Cousins?
Let’s take a look at the Vikings’ top two picks (1st and 3rd round) in the 2021 NFL Draft if they choose to flip the sand timer on Cousin’s time in Minnesota.
