Does Jalen Hurts have Carson Wentz feeling pressure with the Eagles in 2020?

The Philadelphia Eagles are 0-2-1 to start the 2020 NFL season, and with high expectations from the fan base, that kind of start to the season is unacceptable, to say the least.

One of the primary reasons for Philadelphia’s inability to win games through the first portion of the season has been quarterback Carson Wentz.

Wentz was an NFL MVP candidate early on in his career, and he’s received a big contract extension from the Eagles, but the team made a curious decision to draft Oklahoma/Alabama quarterback Jalen Hurts in round two of the 2020 NFL Draft and Wentz has not responded well when it comes to on-field performance.

In three games, Wentz has completed less than 60 percent of his passes with just three touchdown tosses and six interceptions. Even adding two rushing touchdowns, Wentz has been sacked 11 times and has fumbled three times.

That’s nine times in three games that Wentz has put the ball in harm’s way, and he just hasn’t looked like the Carson Wentz that was once shredding NFL defenses.

So where does Jalen Hurts factor into things?

The Eagles drafting him was an odd move in the first place. Why did they draft Hurts at all? It can’t have been to be just a Taysom Hill-type of player as some in the media suggested when the pick came through.

That’s not to say that you can’t invest high draft capital in a player who can function as both a backup quarterback and offensive weapon, but did the Eagles notice something in Wentz’s game to give them a reason to use a second-round pick on a quarterback?

Hurts has yet to throw a pass for the Eagles and has carried the ball just twice so far in three games, and it’s unlikely that the Eagles would move to him barring injury to Wentz. With that being said, Hurts’ presence and Wentz’s early struggles somewhat give you the vibe that there’s one eye on 2021 in Philadelphia.
