Cincinnati Bengals: Round 2, Pick 35

OL. Tennessee. Trey Smith. 839. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. 2. player

This may seem like overkill, but this Bengals’ offensive line is an absolute mess and could use legitimate upgrades at many positions. With the available options on the board, Tennesee offensive lineman Trey Smith stood out as the most obvious addition for the Cincinnati Bengals here in the second round.

Smith is a former five-star who began his college career playing left tackle and being named a second-team All-SEC selection as a true freshman. As a sophomore in 2018, Smith started the first seven games of Tennessee’s season at left tackle before being shut down for the year because of a blood clot issue.

Smith’s blood clots were career and even life-threatening. Seeing him get healthy and back on the field for the Vols last season was great.

Now, Smith is playing offensive guard for Tennessee and looks to be a great fit for the position. Smith is a big and powerful player who shows tremendous power at the point of attack. He fires off of the ball quickly and commonly gets the upper-hand over his opponent. Smith is an extremely aggressive blocker who shines when allowed to attack and play moving forward. This makes him a great fit for the inside of the offensive line.

Adding both Sewell and Smith to the offensive line mix would be a major win for the Cincinnati Bengals. The unit stands out as far-and-away the biggest weakness on the roster, so quickly doubling-up like this would make some sense. It is all about helping Burrow become the best that he can be.
