The Denver Broncos are 0-3 and suddenly in Trevor Lawrence range.

For the second consecutive season, the Denver Broncos are 0-3 (they started 0-4 in 2019) and looking beaten, battered, and bruised.

Before the start of the 2020 season, the Denver Broncos lost starting right tackle and big free agent pickup Ja’Wuan James to an opt-out, and just days before their season-opener against the Tennessee Titans, Von Miller suffered an injury that will keep him out a minimum of three months.

After Von Miller’s injury, the team lost starting cornerback AJ Bouye during their week one loss to the Tennessee Titans for a minimum of three weeks.

Star running back Phillip Lindsay was also lost due to turf toe.

After that, it was wide receiver Courtland Sutton who went down with a season-ending knee injury.

In the same game Sutton was lost, the Denver Broncos also lost quarterback Drew Lock for 3-5 weeks with a shoulder injury.

For the second consecutive season, Lock is missing time due to injury, and while he has shown tremendous poise and promise in his first glimpse of NFL action, the reality is that the Denver Broncos are so beaten up in the injury department that the top three of the 2021 NFL Draft is not out of the realm of possibility right now.

Without Lock on the field, the Denver Broncos have put on a clinic of what not to do at the quarterback position. Joe Flacco, Brandon Allen, and now Jeff Driskel have all shown themselves to be worse than sub-optimal NFL quarterback options.

While the team is still obviously hoping Drew Lock is the guy for the long-term, they really need him to get out there and start helping them win games. The reality is, as of Thursday night against the New York Jets, the Broncos will have been without Lock for 13 full games because of injury (thumb injury in 2019, shoulder in 2020).

If they lose their way to the top pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, nothing is off the table.

While that option is still in the realm of possibility, let’s take a look at how the Denver Broncos could approach the 2021 NFL Draft with the top overall pick.
