Previewing the SEC matchup of No. 23 Kentucky and No. 8 Auburn

SEC football is finally back and the marquee conference matchup of the weekend pits No. 23 Kentucky against No. 8 Auburn. The Auburn Tigers will play host in this game as they look to build on their success behind quarterback Bo Nix from last season.

Nix played well as a true freshman quarterback last season, throwing for 2,542 yards and 16 touchdowns. He also rushed for 313 yards and seven touchdowns, and was named SEC Freshman of the Year. Nix had a strong season for the Tigers and appears to have a bright future going forward. Can he build on his success with a strong start to his second collegiate season?

Seth Williams returns as Nix’s number one target in the Auburn offense and looks to take his game to the next level. Williams is a big and physical target on the outside who shows impressive contested-catch ability. He is a fringe first-round 2021 NFL Draft prospect who could improve his stock in a big way this season. He is undoubtedly a player to watch this weekend.

Kentucky is led by senior quarterback Terry Wilson who is returning to the field after missing the last 11 games of the season in 2019. Wilson is an explosive playmaker who is primarily a threat as a runner, but he is more of a threat as a passer than they had for most of last season.

The Auburn defense presents a tough test for Wilson and the Kentucky offense, but their strong offensive line should help the Wildcats move the ball on Saturday night. Center Drake Jackson and left tackle Landon Young are both legitimate 2021 NFL Draft prospects who will consistently open up rushing lanes for the Wildcats this season.
