DeVonta Smith. player. 47. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. WR. Alabama. 22

Considering the fact that N’Keal Harry is the only wide receiver Bill Belichick has selected in the first round of the NFL Draft, I have a hard time projecting the Pats a receiver just two years later.

With that said, DeVonta Smith is a tremendous talent and the Patriots really need someone like him in their offense right now.

At this point, it would be shocking if the Patriots didn’t find a way to move forward with Cam Newton as their quarterback for the future, at least for the next few seasons. Newton has plenty of talent around him at the running back position in New England, but their receiver group is not all that good.

The Patriots need Harry to take a step forward in 2020 big time, because Julian Edelman probably won’t be able to play forever (though he’s still playing at a high level).

Smith is a very good all-around receiver with smooth routes, great hands, and the ability to take the top off the defense vertically.
