Jacksonville Jaguars: Rookie RB James Robinson looks like a keeper
Jacksonville Jaguars undrafted rookie running back James Robinson is proving that he belongs.
There were not many positives for the Jacksonville Jaguars on Thursday. They suffered an ugly 31-13 defeat to the previously 0-2 Miami Dolphins and appear headed towards a long season without many wins. That being said, undrafted rookie running back James Robinson should be proud of his performance, as the undrafted rookie continues to prove that he belongs.
In the loss to Miami, Robinson only carried the ball 11 times for 46 yards. That being said, he was able to find the endzone twice and made a major impact for the Jags in the passing game. Despite having little impact in the passing game in the previous two weeks, Robinson caught six passes for 83 yards on Thursday night. Simply put, Robinson was easily the most productive offensive player for the Jacksonville Jaguars against Miami.
Robinson continues to show a legitimate NFL skill-set which should lead to continued success. He has fantastic ball carrier vision and shows a strong combination of quickness and power with the ball in his hands. Robinson is an extremely instinctive runner who works through traffic well and consistently finishes forward. This guy is always going to get the most out of every touch.
His ability to make an impact as a receiver out of the backfield on Thursday night is extremely encouraging for his game going forward. In the first two games of the season, the Jags relied on Chris Thompson as their primary passing game back. While Thompson will obviously continue to see third-down work, Robinson proved that he can make an impact in that role as well and that is great.
The Jacksonville Jaguars are undoubtedly still a team that has a long way to go, but they seemed to have found something in their undrafted rookie running back. It’s better than nothing.
