Five teams that are proving to be in need of a quarterback in the 2021 NFL Draft.

The 2020 NFL season is still fresh and new, but there has been a large enough sample size that we’ve been able to form a grasp on what most teams will be in a nutshell over the course of the season. With that comes an idea for how each team will approach the 2021 NFL Draft.

Every year there is speculation over how many quarterbacks will go in the first round, in the draft as a whole, and so on. However, the same amount of speculation goes into who will draft those quarterbacks. Normally a decent opinion can be formed, but other times there are complete surprises.

Take last year for example. The New England Patriots were almost certain to take a quarterback after the departure of Tom Brady but instead opted to wait until the last minute to sign Cam Newton while confusing everyone at the draft. In hindsight, it seems like the prototypical Bill Belichick move.

Similarly, the majority of fans were shocked to see the Philadelphia Eagles not only take a quarterback but pull the trigger in the second round on Jalen Hurts who ended up being the fifth quarterback off the board.

In total, 13 quarterbacks were selected in the 2020 NFL Draft going to 13 different teams as well. We didn’t have a double-dip like Washington in 2012 taking Robert Griffin III and Kirk Cousins. Even with that many entering the league last year, there will still be plenty of openings in the coming year for new rookies.

So as we move into the third week of the NFL season, who will be the teams that will have quarterbacks on their radar in the 2021 NFL Draft? This list will change over time and there will most likely be more than five teams in the market, but these are the teams that are showing early indications of needing an extra arm in the quarterback room next year.
