2021 NFL Draft: Top SEC prospects to watch on opening weekend
Florida quarterback Kyle Trask
Assuming they all declare, the top three quarterbacks in the 2021 NFL Draft feel pretty stable. Trevor Lawrence, Justin Fields and Trey Lance stand tall at the top of this class, with the next group of quarterbacks being basically a complete crapshoot.
Florida quarterback Kyle Trask certainly stands out as a strong option to end up being QB4 in this class, despite taking an odd path to becoming an SEC starting quarterback. Trask spent his high school career as a backup to D’Eriq King, but showed enough promise to catch the attention of the Florida coaching staff.
Trask did not see much action during his first three years on campus but took over as Florida’s starting quarterback early last season. In 2019, Trask appeared in 12 games (including 10 starts), completing 66.9% of his passes for 2,941 yards, 25 touchdowns and seven interceptions.
He is a smart and accurate quarterback who shows a quick release and good mobility in and outside of the pocket. Trask does not have the biggest arm, but he is certainly an interesting 2021 NFL Draft prospect who could easily catch the attention of NFL teams this season. It all starts this weekend against Ole Miss.
Ole Miss wide receiver Elijah Moore
Ole Miss is not exactly loaded with 2021 NFL Draft talent this season, but there are a few guys who we should be keeping an eye on. Most notably, I am interested to see what wide receiver Elijah Moore can do for the team.
Last season, Moore led Ole Miss in receptions (67), receiving yards (850) and receiving touchdowns (six). He was able to make a major impact on the field despite playing in an offense that was extremely run-heavy. With the Lane Kiffin offense coming into town this season, Ole Miss should be more wide open this season, presenting much more opportunity for Moore to make an impact.
Moore is an explosive receiver who shows an impressive combination of raw speed and open-field elusiveness. Expect Kiffin to consistently get Moore touches, giving him ample opportunity to prove himself as a 2021 NFL Draft prospect. A big performance against Florida would quickly get Moore squarely on the radar.
