2021 NFL Draft: Duke Edge Victor Dimukeje off to great start in 2020
Duke edge Victor Dimukeje is off to a great start in 2020, raising his stock for the 2021 NFL Draft.
The edge class in the 2021 NFL Draft is one that is full of questions at the moment. With Gregory Rousseau opting out, the race for “EDGE2” is on. The good news is that four of the power five are playing in the fall, and we will see the best rise to the occasion. After two weekends of ACC play, Duke edge Victor Dimukeje is putting himself on the map.
In the opening game against Notre Dame, Dimukeje only registered two tackles, but he did do well creating pressure at times throughout the game. This past weekend against Boston College, Dimukeje really got things cooking.
Dimukeje registered 3.5 sacks and one forced fumble against the Eagles, while also logging seven pressures. It was an absolute clinic of teach-tape for him, winning reps against Eagles left tackle Zion Johnson, who has loads of experience and is a solid NFL Draft prospect in his own right.
Dimukeje has a lot of traits to work with, and they were on display throughout the game. He showed great hand usage at initial contact and worked well to counter when he was stood up at the point of attack. His sack and forced fumble against Johnson showed his ability to threaten the outside track and the technical skills to rip and bend to finish off the play.
The ability to create pressure in multiple ways is great to see for evaluators and analysts. He has the build to be a 4-3 defensive end or a 3-4 outside linebacker at 265 pounds, so a lot of teams will be interested when the 2021 NFL Draft process rolls around.
After a strong start through two games, Dimukeje has a real chance to put up great numbers in ACC play in 2020 and improve his stock mightily. If he continues to develop his technique as a rusher and shows off the bend and counter moves, he could end up as a top 64 selection come April.
