2021 NFL Draft: New York Jets find new franchise QB in NFL mock draft
2021 NFL Draft: Round 1, Pick 5
The Jacksonville Jaguars could easily end up changing directions and taking a quarterback in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft. They appear to have full confidence in Gardner Minshew, but he was a sixth-round selection just a year ago. It is certainly possible that Minshew struggles throughout the rest of the season and quarterback looks like the obvious option for Jacksonville here.
That being said, for now, we are going to look in another direction and look to build the Jaguars around Minshew. With the fifth pick of this mock draft, Jacksonville brings in the top wide receiver prospect in the 2021 NFL Draft class, Ja’Marr Chase out of LSU.
Chase is not the biggest or most explosive wide receiver in this class, but he is a solid and dependable target who has a strong overall mix of skills that translate well to the next level. Chase is a wonderful route runner who can shake man coverage and find soft spots against zone. He has strong and reliable hands and does a fantastic job of turning upfield quickly and creating yardage after the catch.
While Chase is not the most elite athlete in this class, he does show a ton of upside as a contested-catch receiver. He also tracks the deep ball incredibly well and is always making the most out of every single play.
Chase is an extremely talented wide receiver prospect who simply refuses to let the defense take him away. He is a true number one wide receiver who is undoubtedly going to make a massive impact at the next level. Pairing Chase with D.J. Chark would give the Jags an exciting wide receiver duo to build their offense around, while also giving Minshew the best possible situation to succeed in going forward.
