2021 NFL Draft: Round 1, Pick 14

The Los Angeles Chargers lack impact talent on the offensive line and if they ever expect young quarterback Justin Herbert to reach his ceiling, they need to invest in the unit. Ideally, they would be able to add a legitimate franchise left tackle in the 2021 NFL Draft, but with both Sewell and Cosmi off of the board, an offensive tackle here feels like a reach.

Instead, the Chargers make a big addition to their interior by bringing in Ohio State offensive guard Wyatt Davis here at No. 14 overall. Davis is a mean and nasty interior offensive line prospect who shows incredible natural power at the point of attack. He fires off of the ball quickly, gets his hands on the defender in an instant and consistently drives them down the field. Davis is an elite run blocker who is going to consistently clear out rushing lanes at the next level.

While his incredibly raw power immediately stands out on tape, Davis also moves well for an offensive lineman. He can handle speed rushers on the inside and is also a tremendous run blocker at the second level. He is probably best suited for a gap scheme, but Davis certainly adds plenty of value to zone rushing plays as well.

In this writer’s opinion, Davis is easily the best interior offensive lineman in the 2021 NFL Draft class. He has a chance to quickly become one of the premier players at this position at the next level and would undoubtedly fill an important position of need for the Chargers up front.
