2021 NFL Draft: New York Jets find new franchise QB in NFL mock draft
2021 NFL Draft: Round 1, Pick 10
The Cleveland Browns were able to take care of business in Week 2 against the Cincinnati Bengals, but their lack of depth on the edge was obvious in that game. Starting defensive end Olivier Vernon did not play in the game due to an abdominal injury and his replacement, Adrian Clayborn, left early in the game due to a hip injury. It was Myles Garrett and little else on the edge for the Browns on Thursday night and it was easy to see that they lacked quality depth at the position.
Vernon will hit free agency next offseason and Clayborn is an aging player who is unlikely to fit into Cleveland’s future plans. Simply put, this team must address their depth on the edge over the offseason and that could easily come early in the 2021 NFL Draft. With the 10th pick of this mock draft, Cleveland takes a swing for some upside at the position by bringing in Gregory Rousseau.
Rousseau is undoubtedly a talented player who filled up the stat sheet with 15.5 sacks and 19.5 tackles for loss last season. He is a tremendous athlete who shows a quick first step and fantastic upfield burst. His ability to bend around the edge and close on the quarterback is consistently impressive and he also shows the ability to set the edge and maintain his gap when asked to do so.
Rousseau has all of the upside in the world and could quickly turn into an impact player at the next level. He is undoubtedly a raw prospect who will need to clean up his game a bit, but pairing him with Myles Garrett could give the Browns an extremely dangerous long-term duo on the edge.
