3. Carlos Basham, EDGE, Wake Forest

Value trumps need again here with the Jets’ top pick in round two of the 2021 NFL Draft as Carlos Basham fell just outside of the first round.

A tremendous athlete and all-around edge defender, Basham has really grown into his game as a powerful edge player who can play with his hand in the dirt or standing up.

Against Clemson, Basham had a couple tackles, a sack, a batted pass, and a tackle for loss. He’s going to be consistently behind the line of scrimmage at the next level with his combination of power and athleticism, and the Jets would probably love to have a player off the edge with his versatility and ability to both crash the pocket and play the run well.

With the top receivers off the board at this point, the Jets’ defense took precedence.
