Lamar Jackson

Now for the MVP himself. Many of the analysts in national media didn’t like the Lamar Jackson selection in the 2018 NFL Draft. Baltimore tailored their offense and personnel to help Jackson, who was a talented runner in college but had the arm strength and accuracy to succeed in the NFL.

The success in his rookie season didn’t go unnoticed, but his struggles with reads and throws outside the numbers persisted. He often went to the run as an escape rather than a last resort.

Then, 2019 rolled around, and Jackson played very well, winning the MVP and leading the Ravens to a 14-2 record. He was terrific with placement and accuracy over the middle of the field to his tight ends and was efficient in the red zone. He flashed the deep ball and played extremely efficient football, proving so many wrong.

Now, with an even more talented roster, things are there for Jackson to take another step in the 2020 NFL season. He’s a smart player with the football and limits turnovers. If there’s one thing for him to work on this season, it’s the ability to push the ball outside the hashes. Driving the ball out there is his one weakness right now, and it’s a minor one. Buckle up for a big 2020.
