2021 NFL Draft Round 1, Pick 5 (Miami Dolphins, 3-13)

Scouting Report. Linebacker. Micah Parsons. 5. player. Pick Analysis. Penn State. 59

Being in the midst of a rebuild, the Miami Dolphins are in a position to take the best player available, within reason, with every pick. In this case, that should be yet another player that opted out in Micah Parsons.

The Dolphins hit a lot of key positions this past draft, but after trading Raekwon McMillan they will be in need of a linebacker to lead the defense from the middle of the field.

Parsons will be a game-changer for whatever team decides to pick him this coming year. He has the ability to transform any defense in the NFL and Miami seems like the perfect opportunity for him to play to his potential.

Of the current group of projected starters for the Dolphins only Kyle Van Noy is known and has long-standing value to the organization. Making an upgrade at that position, especially one like Parsons, will be a huge step in the team’s rebuild.

Like the other players that have opted out, Parsons won’t need tape from 2020 to up his draft stock. What he has is enough for the Dolphins to make this pick and secure the core of their defense for years to come with a strong middle linebacker.
