2021 NFL Draft Round 1, Pick 4 (Jacksonville Jaguars, 3-13)

Justin Fields. 4. player. 52. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. Quarterback. Ohio State

It is being rumored that the Jacksonville Jaguars are attempting to tank this season, and the moves they’ve made are supporting that claim. However, the amount of young talent on that team might spoil those plans. Instead, they land with the fourth pick and still snag a top quarterback talent in Justin Fields.

With Washington and the Jets having the second and third picks, there is a strong chance that in this scenario the Jags can still land either Lawrence or Fields without moving, similar to the Dolphins getting Tua this past year.

Fields has a similar skill set to current Jacksonville starter Gardner Minshew, but on a much higher level. We’ve already seen the success that Minshew has had, but amplifying those abilities in this offense in the way of Fields could really elevate the team’s success at a rapid rate.

With young talent at wide receiver in D.J. Chark and Dede Westbrook among others, Fields would be walking into a great situation for him to go beyond his expectations and maybe even best Lawrence for the best quarterback in this class.

The Jaguars could go a few different ways with this pick, but when it comes down to it they need to invest in a franchise quarterback if they’re selecting this high. If they truly are tanking, it’s obvious they don’t believe in the current group and a big change will be necessary.
