2021 NFL Draft Round 1, Pick 2 (Washington Football Team, 2-14)

Pick Analysis. Oregon. Penei Sewell. 2. player. 58. Scouting Report. Offensive Tackle

Despite just opting out, Penei Sewell is still one of the best players entering the 2021 NFL Draft, which gave him the ability to opt-out of the season. Even without tape from the 2020 year, he should still be a shoo-in for a top-five selection.

The Washington Football Team is going through a complete culture change, something we haven’t really witnessed at this level in a long time. Long before that culture change started, a rebuild began that is still in the process.

The addition of Ron Rivera is one that drummed up excitement, but the pieces in place still aren’t at the level they need to be to compete.

With both Dwayne Haskins and Alex Smith on the roster, plus the addition of Kyle Allen who is familiar with Rivera’s system from Carolina, I don’t see Washington forcing the issue to draft a quarterback just yet. They believe in Haskins enough to hold off, unless Trevor Lawrence is available.

With that being said, they can instead look to protect whoever is under center. The loss of Trent Williams caused a slight setback in the team’s plan, but adding Sewell could bump them way ahead on their schedule by landing one of the top offensive line talents in recent draft memory.
