2021 NFL Draft Round 1, Pick 9 (Green Bay Packers, 5-11)

49. Wide Receiver. Alabama. player. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. DeVonta Smith. 9

I keep thinking that Aaron Rodgers will come out with a vengeance this season, but as true as that may be, he can’t do it alone.

With just Aaron Jones and Davante Adams as weapons on offense, teams should be able to stack the box to stop Jones and put their best two defensive backs to double team Adams, because Rodgers doesn’t really have any other options.

For that reason, this season could be a long one for Packers fans, unless they add a wide receiver. With all the intricate rules this year due to COVID, the reality is that a move of such nature will most likely have to wait until next off-season at this point.

The 2021 NFL Draft wide receiver class should be another deep one and DeVonta Smith is near the top of the list. Arguably the best receiver at Alabama this past season, despite first-round picks Jerry Jeudy and Henry Ruggs taking targets away, Smith should be a lock to be a top 10 pick this coming year.

If Green Bay is in position to take a wide receiver, let alone Smith, they can’t keep passing them up. At some point, you have to give whoever is quarterback people to throw to and Smith could quickly alter the course of this offense.
