Chicago Bears 2021 NFL Draft Need: Quarterback

It is certainly possible that the Chicago Bears find their solution at the quarterback position during the 2020 season. Trubisky still has some upside that he could reach and Foles is a solid veteran option who could stabilize the Bears’ offense for the short-term. Both of those scenarios are possible, but I would not consider them overly likely.

It is more realistic that the Bears go through the 2020 season with uninspiring quarterback play and look to attack the position next offseason. If Trubisky and Foles struggle enough, this team is unlikely to win many games and could be in a position to land one of the top-tier quarterbacks in the 2021 NFL Draft class.

The Bears are not one of the most likely teams to hold a top-three pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, their defense is probably too good to let that happen. That being said, it is not an impossible scenario to imagine and honestly, having the bottom fall out and landing a legitimate franchise quarterback to build around would not be the worst thing for Chicago.

Landing Trevor Lawrence or Justin Fields would be ideal, but the Bears may also be in a good position to bring along a more developmental passer. Trey Lance stands out as a strong fit for this team as a guy who they could develop from the bench next season while Foles leads the team on the field.

Regardless of how their quarterback situation plays out in 2020, the Bears will likely be in the market for a signal-caller in the 2021 NFL Draft. An early selection of Lawrence, Fields or Lance would be ideal, but do not sleep on them bringing in a quarterback no matter where their first-round selection ends up landing.
