Washington Football Team: Early top positions of need for 2021 NFL Draft
Washington Football Team 2021 NFL Draft Need: Quarterback
We simply cannot ignore the potential quarterback need for this team going forward. Washington obviously hopes that Dwayne Haskins can cement himself as their franchise quarterback going forward, but he has a lot of work to do. When it comes down to it, Haskins was a mid-first-round pick who was taken by a different regime. If he does not impress in 2020, his time in Washington will likely be limited.
Alex Smith also needs to be in the discussion here. Smith is coming back from a gruesome leg injury that could have ended his football career. His return is obviously a great story, but he is still a 36-year-old quarterback who is coming off a near-career-ending injury. How valuable is he to a rebuilding team like Washington?
In reality, quarterback is a real potential need for this team and I would not be surprised to see them address the position early in the 2021 NFL Draft. If they end up picking extremely early again, top quarterback prospects like Trevor Lawrence, Justin Fields and Trey Lance will undoubtedly be on their radar. If they are not in a position to land one of the top guys, do not be surprised if Washington ends up being in the market for one of the middle-tier quarterbacks.
Simply put, Haskins is unproven and Smith does not fit particularly well on a rebuilding team. Do not be surprised to see an exciting rookie signal-caller under center for Washington next season.
Possible 2021 NFL Draft Targets: Trevor Lawrence, Justin Fields, Trey Lance, Brock Purdy, Kyle Trask, Tanner Morgan, Spencer Sanders, Desmond Ridder and Jamie Newman
