Washington Football Team: Early top positions of need for 2021 NFL Draft
Washington Football Team 2021 NFL Draft Need: Tight End
The tight end position stands out as one of the weakest on the Washington roster. Jordan Reed and Vernon Davis are gone and the team did little to actually replace them this offseason. They are banking on the athletic upside of Logan Thomas as their starter at the position, with Jeremy Sprinkle and Marcus Baugh as their only depth. Thomas could end up being a revelation, but more than likely, tight end will stand out as a massive need for this team next offseason.
Whether Washington moves forward with Haskins, Alex Smith or ends up going in a new direction at quarterback next offseason, they are going to want to find a real playmaker at the tight end position. Luckily, the 2021 NFL Draft class appears to have more quality depth at the tight end positions than in recent years.
Penn State’s Pat Freiermuth and Florida’s Kyle Pitts stand out as the top two tight end prospects in the class. Freiermuth is the more well-rounded player who can make an impact as a receiver and a blocker. He is a traditional inline tight end, but he also brings plenty of athletic upside. Pitts is the more modern tight end who particularly shines as a receiver. He will do most of his damage out of the slot at the next level. Both players are legitimate first-round prospects at the moment.
If the Washington Football Team does not want to spend a first-round pick on the tight end position, there is still plenty of exciting talent that will likely be available in the middle rounds. There is some serious depth in this group and Washington will be in a great position to add to their tight end mix if they need to.
Possible 2021 NFL Draft Targets: Pat Freiermuth, Kyle Pitts, Brevin Jordan, Nick Eubanks, Charlie Kolar, Matt Bushman and Tre’ McKitty
