It’s Bryce Love season for the Washington Football Team.

The Washington Football Team was unexpectedly forced to release former second-round pick Derrius Guice after some very concerning off-field issues.

The team also made the surprising decision to let go of veteran Adrian Peterson, who had done quite well for them in both 2018 and 2019, rushing for a total of 1,940 yards and 12 touchdowns (4.2 yards per carry).

Peterson’s release from the Washington Football Team came as a surprise, but there are some young backs in the stable who could wind up being sleepers heading into the 2020 NFL season.

One of those backs is former Stanford Cardinal star Bryce Love, who missed the 2019 season recovering from a knee injury he suffered in college.

The Washington Football Team certainly doesn’t have an enviable stable of running backs right now when it comes to experience or depth, and they will almost certainly ride the hot hand until someone emerges as the clear RB1, but why not Bryce Love?

During the 2017 college football season, Love was unstoppable, rushing for over 2,100 yards with 19 touchdowns and over eight — eight — yards per carry.

He was significantly slowed down in his 10 games in 2018 before the Washington Football Team drafted him in the fourth round knowing they would basically have to put him on ice for his rookie season.

Now, with Dwayne Haskins seizing the starting QB position under new head coach Ron Rivera, Love could become Haskins’ top mate in the backfield for 2020 if he can prove he’s fully healthy and back to the level of explosiveness he showed three seasons ago at Stanford.

One of Love’s top contenders for the top running back spot in Washington will be 2020 draft pick Antonio Gibson, an offensive weapon who has 33 college carries at Memphis to his name.

Love certainly has the advantage of being more the naturally gifted running back and he clearly impressed the Washington coaching staff over the course of the 2020 offseason.
