2021 NFL Draft: Three-round mock draft featuring early quarterback run
2021 NFL Draft Round 1, Pick 7
The New York Jets did a nice job of adding talented players at important positions of need in the 2020 NFL Draft. In particular, the additions of offensive tackle Mekhi Becton in the first round and wide receiver Denzel Mims in the second should help this team tremendously. That being said, this team probably has a long way to go before they are ready to be seriously competitive as they still lack viable talent at some key positions.
In my eyes, edge rusher and cornerback stand out as the biggest needs on the Jets’ roster right now and I could see them going in either direction in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft. Here, best player available meets team need well as the New York Jets add cornerback Caleb Farley to the mix.
Farley is a 6-foot-2, 207-pound cornerback prospect who shows an incredible combination of length and athleticism on the outside. He shows impressive awareness in coverage, understanding just how far away he can be away from the receiver without an issue. With tremendous length and click and close ability, Farley can give some extra cushion to the receiver and still make a play on the ball.
He shows impressive mirroring ability in coverage and appears to be a lockdown man coverage defender in the making. While he could grow into the player who you can simply stick him on the best receiver and let him work in man, Farley also shows impressive instincts and natural ball skills in zone coverage.
Simply put, Farley is the best defensive back prospect in the 2021 NFL Draft class and has massive upside at the next level. He would fill a big need for the Jets at an important position in the modern NFL. Farley to New York at No. 7 would undoubtedly make a ton of sense.
