Miami Dolphins: Early top positions of need for 2021 NFL Draft
Free Safety
The Miami Dolphins spent significant resources in the secondary this offseason, signing cornerback Byron Jones to a massive free-agent contract and taking cornerback Noah Igbinoghene in the first round of the 2020 draft. They also took downhill safety Brandon Jones in the third round and will couple these new players with talent incumbents like Xavien Howard, Nik Needham and Eric Rowe.
Simply put, the Miami Dolphins have more talent in their secondary than any other unit on their roster. However, they still lack a deep coverage safety who can grow with these gifted players for the long-term. I fully expect the Dolphins to make the free safety position a priority in the 2021 NFL Draft.
Head coach Brian Flores loves to play with a single-high safety who roams the deep middle of the field and make plays in coverage. Bobby McCain will likely take care of that role in 2020, but he has struggled with injuries and they can easily move on from him after the upcoming season.
The Dolphins would undoubtedly love to find a more long-term piece to take over the single-high position next offseason. The 2021 NFL Draft class is loaded with talent at the safety position and features many players who would fill their needs well.
Potential 2021 NFL Draft targets: Andre Cisco, Trevon Moehrig, Jevon Holland, Paris Ford, Ar’Darius Washington and Richie Grant
