Cleveland Browns 2021 NFL Draft Needs: Running Back

This might come as a surprise, but running back is here because of the guy in the picture above. This is the last year on Kareem Hunt’s contract and if he moves on the Browns will need to revisit the idea of drafting another running back.

With the current shelf life of NFL running backs and the risk that comes with the position, it’s smart to always have two backs who are capable of starting, and the Browns have that with Chubb and Hunt. However, if you take Hunt out of the equation next year, then there’s a gap that needs to be filled.

This is another opportunity for the Browns to make a late draft investment into a position for depth. Most teams draft a running back at least every other year in some capacity, so taking one in the fifth, sixth or seventh round, even with Chubb, isn’t abnormal.

There have been a lot of great running backs picked in the later rounds and finding one to backup Chubb for the future and take over if an injury were to occur is definitely worth a draft pick and something that Cleveland should explore in the 2021 NFL Draft.
