Marcus Cannon obviously opted out of the 2020 season, which doesn’t mean he’s not in the team’s future plans, but he will be 33 next year and the Patriots might like Slater’s upside going forward even if it’s more of an investment for 2022.

After using their top pick in 2019 on N’Keal Harry, a big possession receiver, the Patriots look at a completely different type of receiver here in Tutu Atwell, a smaller, speedy player.
As a sophomore last year at Louisville, Atwell had 69 receptions for 1,272 yards and 11 touchdowns.
He could be a perfect heir apparent to Julian Edelman out of the slot.
