Cam Newton is a great late-round fantasy football target.

In standard one-quarterback fantasy football leagues, it is typically a strong strategy to wait on the quarterback position. Sure, it is great to have a Patrick Mahomes or Lamar Jackson on your roster, but if one secures a quarterback like that in the second round of the draft, that owner is giving up important value and depth at the more important running back and wide receiver positions.

in this one-quarterback fantasy football leagues, shooting for upside on a late-round quarterback prospect is typically a strong plan of attack. If you hit big on your late-round quarterback flyer, you immediately find a massive advantage over the rest of your league. Lamar Jackson last season and Patrick Mahomes the year before are absolutely perfect examples of this. If you miss on your late-round high-upside quarterback, streaming the deep position based on matchups is an adequate long-term plan.

When searching for these high-upside players, it is wise to look for quarterbacks who can produce on the ground. This year, guys like Josh Allen (9.01 average draft position) and Daniel Jones (11.06 ADP) stand out as strong targets, but it is New England Patriots quarterback Cam Newton and his late 10th-round ADP that stands out as my favorite value.

Newton has struggled mightily with injuries in recent years, but when he is on the field, he has always had a ton of fantasy football upside. Newton is a big and powerful runner at the quarterback position who is not afraid to tuck the ball and run. He is a tremendous ball carrier in the red zone and has the athleticism to escape the pocket and create with his legs at any time.

As a passer, Newton has always been a bit inconsistent. That being said, Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels will likely put Newton in positions to succeed on a consistent basis. Newton is not surrounded with an exciting group of weapons, but he will be protected by a strong offensive line and will have a great play-caller putting him in advantageous situations.

I am extremely interested to see what McDaniels and company can do with Cam Newton this season. While he does have a relatively scary floor, his fantasy football upside this season is absolutely massive. Newton is the perfect late-round quarterback flyer to take a chance on this season. If he hits, you have a top-tier starting quarterback on your hands. If not, you did not invest much in him and you can simply turn around and stream at the position.
