Akron – Bubba Arslanian, Linebacker, Redshirt Junior

The 2019 season was a bit of a struggle for Tom Arth and the Akron Zips as they ended up without a win and an 0-12 record. However, a bright spot on the team’s roster was the play of Bubba Arslanian who will be returning to the defense in 2020.

During the 2019 campaign, Arslanian totaled 125 tackles, which was shockingly only second on the team. However, he has the most of all the returning players. Arslanian was also second on the team in sacks, registering two on the year. He was also able to create additional pressure through tackles for loss with four. Arslanian was also able to add a quarterback hurry to his line as well as two pass break-ups and a forced fumble.

Looking ahead to the 2020 season, some are already pegging Arslanian to have a big year. Phil Steele has him as a preseason second-team All-MAC selection while Athlon Sports has him as a preseason third-team All-MAC. Should Arslanian be able to reach those expectations then he should have a shot to make an NFL roster. If he falls short, he still has a year of eligibility to return to Akron and make another run to impress NFL scouts.
