2021 NFL Draft: Top prospects to watch for each ACC team
By Kyle Edmond
Virginia – Joey Blount, Defensive Back, Senior
The Virginia secondary has made waves in the draft of late, most recently seeing Bryce Hall selected. As we move towards the 2021 NFL Draft, the secondary is the place to look once again for the Cavaliers, this time being Joey Blount.
A Third Team All-ACC selection at the conclusion of the 2019 season, Blount was able to total 95 tackles from the secondary, the second-highest total on the Virginia team for the season. Up front, he also contributed 6.5 tackles for loss and added 3.5 sacks, both strong numbers for a defensive back.
Blount also made plays downfield as well, not just behind the line of scrimmage. He led the Cavaliers in interceptions with three while adding three pass breakups, a quarterback hurry and a forced fumble to complete what turned out to be a full stat sheet.
Moving into the 2020 season and 2021 NFL Draft, Blount will need to have another full stat sheet to really draw interest from scouts. As it stands he would be a pick at the end of the season. His potential is lining up to be higher than his value, but his style of play to contribute in multiple facets is always a plus.
