Miami (FL). 1. player. EDGE. Pick Analysis. Gregory Rousseau. 834. Scouting Report

The New York Jets hold the fifth overall pick in this mock draft and use this opportunity to fill a major need on the defensive side of the ball. The Jets have consistently lacked impact players on the edge in recent years and will undoubtedly have their eyes on the position in the 2021 NFL Draft. With their first pick of this mock draft, the Jets snag the top edge rusher in this class, Gregory Rousseau out of Miami.

Rousseau looks like he was built in a lab to be an NFL edge rusher. He has a long and chiseled frame that he uses well to create pressure off of the edge. He is extremely quick off of the ball and bends with ease around the edge. Rousseau is an elite-level athlete at the position and consistently gets tremendous upfield burst as both a pass rusher and a run defender.

Rousseau is a bit of an unrefined talent, but his combination of size, length, burst and athleticism is incredibly impressive and gives him massive upside at the next level. The Jets lack anything close to an elite talent at the edge rusher position. Bringing Rousseau into the mix would give the New York Jets a tremendously talented player who they could legitimately build their defense around.
