2021 NFL Draft prospects to watch: PAC-12 Conference
By Kyle Edmond
Cal – Kuony Deng, Linebacker, Redshirt Senior
The Golden Bears aren’t exactly a powerhouse in the PAC-12, but there always seems to a few standout players at Cal that draw draft attention. This coming year, Kuony Deng has the framework set to be one of those players.
After being an Honorable Mention PAC-12 selection by the coaches at the conclusion of the 2019 season, Deng could make a big push towards the 2021 NFL Draft.
Totaling 119 tackles, Deng finished second on the team a year ago while also being tied for third in sacks with three and being third in tackles for loss as well with 7.5. Deng also created additional pressure with five quarterback hurries and one fumble recovered. He also registered eight pass break-ups.
Heading into the 2020 season, Deng is already drawing more interest and hype. A preseason second-team All-PAC-12 selection, Deng was also added to the preseason watch list for the Lott IMPACT Trophy. This is all coming off a season where he was given Cal’s Andy Smith Award, awarded for playing the most snaps.
Between his stability and production, Deng will warrant at the very least a late-round pick. The talent is obviously there, but another season of sustained production will help solidify his value.
