The New England Patriots could be relying on this rookie tight end in a big way.

The New England Patriots are not exactly loaded with talent on the offensive side of the ball. Cam Newton brings a different element to this offense and undoubtedly raises the ceiling for the 2020 season. But in order for the Pats to get the most out of Newton, they will need their young group of offensive playmakers to step up in a big way.

The growth of second-year receiver N’Keal Harry, and to a lesser extent Jakobi Meyers, is obviously important, but the Patriots will also likely be counting on at least one rookie tight end in a big way. In the third round of the 2020 NFL Draft, the Patriots added two tight ends to the mix. Dalton Keene is an interesting player who will make an impact for this team in a variety of ways, but Devin Asiasi has the athletic upside to be a real weapon in this passing attack.

Asiasi is a big and athletic pass-catcher who easily separates in the middle of the field. He is a sharp route runner who finds space against zone coverage well and has enough speed to challenge vertically in the middle of the field.

Asiasi has soft hands and does a great job of turning upfield quickly after the catch. He is quick and elusive for a tight end and has solid speed in the open field. Asiasi has rare upside as a run-after-catch player from the tight end position.

The New England Patriots need as many offensive playmakers as possible. While Asiasi is a bit raw and completely unproven, he is an extremely talented player who can make an immediate impact on this team. Get him in space and let him work, there is certainly a path to success for this rookie tight end in New England.
