Los Angeles Chargers: Way-too-early three-round 2021 NFL mock draft
After loading up on offensive linemen in the first two rounds, the Chargers look to improve their defensive situation here in the third. Cornerback does not stand out as a massive immediate need for this team, but they could quickly be looking for more help at the position.
The Chargers signed Chris Harris Jr. to a free-agent contract this offseason, but it is only a two-year deal. Harris and Casey Hayward will both hit free agency after the 2021 season and will be past their prime at the cornerback position. The Los Angeles Chargers should be looking for players who can be long-term assets at the cornerback position, and T.J. Carter stands out as a nice value in this range.
Carter is a quick and athletic cornerback prospect who shines in man coverage. He is tough and physical at the line of scrimmage and sticky throughout the route. Carter changes directions quickly and attacks the ball in the air extremely well.
He is an extremely athletic cornerback who is extremely physical in coverage and has a knack for making big plays. The Chargers need some long-term stability at the cornerback position and Carter could quickly grow into an important part of their secondary.
