Who is the most underrated player on the Buffalo Bills roster in 2020?

If you ask Buffalo Bills fans who is the most underrated player on their team’s roster heading into 2020, you might get a wide variety of answers.

The Bills are one of the least-recognized teams nationally in the NFL, but certainly not for a lack of overall talent on the roster.

Sean McDermott has done a tremendous job of changing the culture in Buffalo and his defensive expertise instantly put the Bills in playoff contention. As a matter of fact, the Bills have now made the postseason in two of the last three seasons and their defensive talent has only gotten better.

If you took a poll of 100 NFL fans asking them to name the top two or three linebackers in the NFL, I would be willing to bet that aside from Bills fans, you would probably get very few people who would give you Tremaine Edmunds as an answer.

And yet, heading into the 2020 NFL season, Edmunds is one of the best linebackers in the NFL despite not getting a ton of national hype.

The Bills’ most underrated player

To me, what it means to be an underrated player is to be exceptional but most of the 31 other fan bases wouldn’t be able to agree with you based on what they’ve actually seen and certainly not heard.

Unless you are a die-hard film junky or you play fantasy football with defensive players, you’ve probably been sleeping on Tremaine Edmunds for the past two seasons as well.

He’s been exceptional for the Bills as a 19-year old first-round pick out of Virginia Tech in 2018.

In his first two NFL seasons, Edmunds has 236 total tackles, 15 tackles for loss, 21 pass breakups, three interceptions, and 3.5 sacks.

His nine pass breakups in 2019 were tied for fifth in the NFL last season among linebackers.

At 6-foot-5, 250 pounds, Edmunds is a very rare type of athlete at the off-ball linebacker position with instincts, range, speed to close, and fantastic coverage abilities.

This guy is one of the best all-around football players in the league and he’s only 22 years old heading into this, his third season in the NFL.

The Bills could have a number of players considered as the most underrated on their roster, including Edmunds’ teammate at linebacker Matt Milano. But this guy has true star qualities and production and the majority of NFL fans probably forgot about him after he was drafted 16th overall in 2018.
