Cincinnati Bengals 3-round 2021 NFL mock draft: Building around Burrow
After adding a couple of offensive assets in the first two rounds, the Cincinnati Bengals make an addition to their defense here in the third. Edge rusher is not a major position of need for the Bengals, but it is a spot where they could certainly use some depth.
The trio of Carlos Dunlap, Carl Lawson and Sam Hubbard give the Bengals a strong trio for the 2020 season, but there are still some questions about this group going forward. At 31-years-old, Dunlap may not have much time left in his prime. Lawson is extremely talented, but he has struggled with injuries throughout his career and is entering the final year of his rookie contract. Hubbard is a solid contributor, but how is his ceiling?
Edge rusher is not a massive need for this team, but you can never have too many guys who can attack the quarterback. And Shaka Toney can certainly attack the quarterback.
Toney is a lean and athletic edge rusher who gets off of the ball quickly and shows impressive bend around the edge. He shows incredible natural upfield burst as a pass rusher and has had some success in the hand fighting game.
Toney will likely have to bulk up a bit to have consistent success at the next level, but he legitimately has elite athletic upside and should be able to immediately contribute on obvious passing downs. Not bad for a third-round selection.
