Mississippi State – Kylin Hill, Running Back, Senior

The new head coach in Mississippi State, Mike Leach, isn’t exactly known for his dominant run game, but the talent of Kylin Hill could temporarily change that. That isn’t to say that Leach will all of a sudden become a power run offensive schemer, but he might opt to turn to Hill more than he has other backs in the past.

On 242 rushing attempts last season, Hill totaled 1,350 yards, but his touchdowns are what will make him valuable to both Leach and eventually an NFL team. Hill found the end zone 10 times on the ground in 2019 with another through the air. Even after 10 rushing touchdowns, some are still considering the season a down year for Hill.

In Leach’s system, Hill will be forced to run more routes and improve his pass-catching game on top of his running ability. If Hill can showcase his ability in the passing game, then teams will begin to really show interest.

There’s no question that the NFL is trending towards running backs that can not only run well but be a factor in the passing game. Look at Christian McCaffrey and Saquon Barkley. I don’t think Hill is at that level, or really even close to it, but should he prove to be an all-purpose back, there’s no question that teams will give him a shot on their roster and maybe even pay a higher price than expected for him.
