The Pittsburgh Steelers are another team that could consider a quarterback in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft, but there are simply too many talented prospects still available. Instead of reaching for a quarterback, the Steelers give Ben Roethlisberger an exciting weapon to work with in the passing game.

Pat Freiermuth is the most well-rounded, and in this writer’s opinion, best tight end in the 2021 NFL Draft class. The Steelers do have Vance McDonald and Eric Ebron at the position, but neither guy should be looked at as an ideal long-term tight end option for the team. Tight end does stand out as a major long-term need for this team and Freiermuth stands out as a nice value choice here.

The 6-foot-5, 259-pound Freiermuth has an impressive combination of size, speed and athleticism that makes him a consistent mismatch on the inside. He is a crafty route runner who does a nice job of working through traffic and creating space against slower-footed linebackers.

While Freiermuth does a nice job of creating space with his route-running ability, he does a nice job of catching in traffic when necessary. Freiermuth has strong hands and does a nice job of creating after the catch with a strong combination of quickness and power. He is not a dominant run blocker at this point in his career, but Freiermuth is certainly solid in this area and has the upside to grow as well.

Make no mistake about it, Freiermuth is a gifted tight end prospect who could quickly grow into a premier weapon for the Steelers on the offensive side of the ball.
