WR. Jaylen Waddle. Scouting Report. 14. player. 13. Pick Analysis. Alabama

The Alabama football team is absolutely loaded again and will undoubtedly see multiple first-round selections from their squad in the 2021 NFL Draft. For the fifth pick in a row, we see an Alabama player go off of the board in this mock draft with wide receiver Jaylen Waddle landing with the Los Angeles Chargers.

Similarly to Burrow in Cincinnati, the Chargers are going to look to do whatever they can to help quarterback Justin Herbert reach his ceiling going forward. Their offensive line certainly needs some help, but the value at the position is not great here. Instead, the Chargers dip into this loaded wide receiver class and come away with arguably the most dynamic player in the entire 2021 NFL Draft class.

Waddle has tremendous natural speed and elusiveness in the open field and is a dynamic deep threat who tracks the ball in the air extremely well. However, Waddle is at his best when the ball is in his hands. When this guy gets the ball in his hands, look out, because his combination of speed, elusiveness and contact balance makes him a threat to score from anywhere on the field.

Adding Waddle to a wide receiver room that already includes Keenan Allen and Mike Williams would be a dream scenario for the Chargers’ young quarterback. I have never been the biggest Herbert fan, but if he has a trio of weapons like this, he could certainly have some success early in his NFL career.
