2021 NFL Draft prospects to watch: Big 12 Conference
By Kyle Edmond
TCU – Garret Wallow, Linebacker, Senior
Shockingly the first senior on this list, Garret Wallow was quietly a force on a 2019 TCU defense that saw Jeff Gladney and Ross Blacklock go in the earlier rounds of this past draft. Looking ahead to the 2021 NFL Draft, Wallow is shaping up to be just another name on that list of TCU success stories.
Registering a team-leading 125 tackles, more than double the second-highest total on the team, Wallow was a wrecking ball in the middle of the Horned Frogs’ defense. He also created mass pressure, logging 18.0 tackles for loss, again doubling the second-highest total on the team. If that wasn’t enough, his 3.5 sacks were tied for the team-lead with Blacklock.
Even with such an impressive stat line, it could be argued that his season was a little overlooked. Phil Steele named him a 2019 All-American Honorable Mention, but that was as far as the All-American recognition went. However, he was named First Team All-Big 12.
With Blacklock and other pieces leaving TCU for the next level, there should only be more opportunity for Wallow in the 2020 season. With better numbers than some of the top linebacker prospects for the 2021 NFL Draft, like Micah Parsons, Wallow could be the next great steal for teams in need of a linebacker.
