Safety. 71. player. 872. Pick Analysis. TCU. Trevon Moehrig. Scouting Report

Things finish up in this mock draft for the Miami Dolphins in the third round. Miami didn’t address the safety position in the 2020 draft until the third round, selecting Texas’ Brandon Jones. Jones joins a safety room with Eric Rowe and Bobby McCain listed as the favorites to start.

Rowe is a converted corner, McCain is a solid fill in, and Jones does his best work coming downhill and operating near the line of scrimmage. At this point, it seems like one of the glaring holes in the defense.

Luckily for Miami, the 2021 NFL Draft is shaping up to be a good safety class. TCU has a great pair of safeties that will take the field this season, Ar’Darius Washington and Trevon Moehrig, and the Dolphins land one of them in the third round in Moehrig.

Moehrig is at his best playing centerfield, where he displays good range and ball skills. That isn’t to say he can’t succeed at times in man coverage either. Moehrig would be a great addition to a secondary that desperately needs help on the back end.

As always, drop your thoughts on Miami Dolphins haul here, but don’t take things too seriously. The 2021 draft is a ways off, but it’s interesting to identify needs on every roster that will need to be addressed in the future.
