Projected 2020 Arizona Cardinals roster and practice squad
By Matt Murray
Quarterbacks (2): Kyler Murray and Bretty Hundley
The Cardinals only had two quarterbacks on the roster in 2019 and that is a trend that could continue in 2020. Even though the obvious choice here is to continue that trend with Kyler Murray and Brett Hundley, there is a case to be made for keeping a third QB.
The Face of the Franchise
Kyler Murray is the Cardinals centerpiece moving forward that has been shown not only by his number one overall selection but the team’s choice to build quickly around him both at offensive line and with weapons that work in a system friendly to the way he plays.
The change from David Johnson to Kenyan Drake is a great example of this, as is the addition of DeAndre Hopkins. Kyler Murray is quickly establishing himself in the league and should be put in pen as QB1 for the Cardinals for the foreseeable future.
Brett Hundley
Hundley filled in during the 2019 season running a very similar offense to that of Murray and even helping the Cardinals close out a win against Seattle. One of the most important things I look for in a backup quarterback is just that, can they run the same or a similar offense to the starter. In this case, all signs point to Hundley being able to fulfill that role and be more than adequate as a backup QB.
Chris Streveler
The Cardinals signed the CFL Blue Bombers quarterback Chris Streveler in February, before resigning Hundley this offseason, and although it was at a relatively cheap price there was plenty of noise around Streveler. Specifically in the realm of a Taysom Hill role which was something he did quite often in the CFL.
Streveler most notably shined in the 2019 CFL playoffs where he led his team in rushing in the semifinal and in the final completed all three of his passes rushed for a touchdown and made a reception. This is a name I will return to in this slideshow and is an important name to watch going forward.
