NFL power rankings 2020: Ranking all new QB additions
1. Cam Newton, New England Patriots
Despite being one of the latest signings and for the cheapest contract of any player on this list, Cam Newton signing with the New England Patriots is the most impactful offseason move at quarterback for any NFL team in 2020.
Long-term, that’s a different story.
But for 2020, Newton to the Patriots is the most impactful.
The Patriots don’t exactly know what they’re getting from Newton, but for the price they paid (a maximum of under $8 million), the risk is worth the reward.
Newton believes he can prove himself in New England, and frankly, he’s probably right.
Josh McDaniels is a master at adapting his offense to personnel, evidenced by the fact that the Patriots made it as far as they did in the 2019 postseason with one of the worst wide receiver groups in the league.
Newton’s presence means the Patriots will certainly be a more run-oriented team in 2020, but they have the offensive line and workhorses at running back to make that happen.
With Newton, the Patriots are contenders. Without him, it feels like they are trying to tank. That’s not a universal perspective, but the Patriots’ roster is significantly different with Cam Newton on it.
